The Government Gateway portal is now open for applications to claim the fourth grant for the self-employed.  However there has been some confusion around this as the HMRC are now contacting those that are newly registered as self employed via Text email or letter giving them the date that they are able to make their application.

This grant is for those that are self employed whose businesses have been affected by Coronavirus.  This next round is worth 80% of the average monthly trading profits that is capped at £2,500 and will cover February, March and April.

This claim will need to be made by yourself and not your tax agent or adviser as this could delay your application.

Before you start your claim, you will need:

  • Self Assessment Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)
  • National Insurance number
  • Government Gateway user ID and password
  • UK bank details including account number, sort code, name on the account and address linked to the account

Click here to begin your claim on the government portal or check when you are able to make your application.

The Chancellor confirmed during his Budget that there will also be a fifth payment, which will open to claims from late July and cover the period from May until July.  This claim will be 30% of the average monthly trading profits if the claimant has seen a reduction in of less than 30 percent.
